What We Believe

First and foremost we strive to derive our beliefs from the Bible. The statements that follow are abbreviated. Do you want to know more about what we believe? Just contact us or visit us on Sunday morning!

God

God is the Creator of all things and Ruler of the universe. He has always existed and will never cease to exist. God exists in three persons: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All are coequal and work together to complete God’s good and perfect Will.

Jesus Christ, the Son

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God. He is fully man and fully God and is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. While Jesus was on earth He lived a perfectly sinless life. Jesus’ teachings, miracles, and ministry were all aimed at demonstrating love and revealing God’s plan of salvation for the world. Jesus willingly gave His life as a sacrifice for all humanity. He was raised from the dead three days after His crucifixion thus defeating sin and death for all who accept Him as Savior. Jesus ascended into heaven and promised to return and establish His Eternal Kingdom on earth.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and Son. He was and is present in all things and works to accomplish God’s Will. The Holy Spirit convicts us of the need for Salvation that God offers through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit also dwells within believers from the moment of Salvation. He provides comfort, guidance, strength, and courage for believers so that they become a powerful witness for Christ.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the revealed Word of God and was delivered to us by inspired authors. The Bible and its contents serve as the supreme witness of God’s love for humanity and His plan to redeem us all through Jesus Christ. The Bible is also the ultimate standard of pure Truth with which we are to measure our actions and deeds.

Humans

Humans were God’s final and supreme act of creation and we were created in His image. In the beginning we were in perfect fellowship with God. But Man allowed sin to enter the world by falling into temptation and rejecting God. Being perfect, God could not allow sinful beings to dwell in His presence. Sin has caused us to be separated from God and sin is the number one problem in all of humanity. But God, in His love and mercy has offered us Salvation through Jesus Christ, His Son.

Salvation

Salvation is God’s free gift of grace to us. All we need to do is accept that gift through faith, repentance and baptism. We believe that the most biblical mode of baptism is by immersion and therefore we immerse anyone who comes to be baptized. We also need to understand that Salvation is bestowed by God and not earned by just doing good works.

The Lord’s Supper

We believe that the Lord’s Supper or Communion is an act of devotion to Christ. The first Lord’s Supper was shared between Jesus and His disciples the day before He was crucified. Jesus stated that the bread represented His body that was broken for our sake. He also said that the wine represented His blood that was shed as a sacrifice for our sins. We partake of the Lord’s Supper every Sunday as a sign of our gratefulness for Jesus’ work on the cross. Anyone who has been baptized and is a believer may take Communion at Salisbury Christian.
